AERO Conducts Snake Awareness Session During Wildlife Week 2026 at Mauxi
On the occasion of Wildlife Week 2026, Arannya Environment Research Organisation (AERO) participated in a snake awareness initiative organised by the Goa Forest Development Corporation and the Goa Forest Department.
Harshvardhan Naik, Research Officer at AERO, served as a Resource Person and delivered an expert awareness session on snakes for members of the Self-Help Group associated with Mauxi Village Panchayat and the general public.
The session focused on improving participants’ understanding of snakes, their ecological importance, and their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. It also addressed common misconceptions and fears associated with snakes, emphasising the importance of responding calmly and responsibly during encounters.
Participants were encouraged to recognise the value of snakes in nature, understand the importance of maintaining a safe distance, and seek assistance from trained personnel when necessary, rather than attempting to handle or harm them.
Through this initiative, AERO contributed to promoting scientific awareness, reducing fear and misconceptions, and encouraging peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.
The session reinforced the importance of community awareness in wildlife conservation and highlighted how informed responses can help protect both human lives and biodiversity.
