A groundbreaking discovery was celebrated with the introduction of a new ant species from India, named “Onaele,” meaning “leaflitter” in Kannada—a nod to the microhabitat where it was found in Kodagu District, Karnataka. The naming highlights the value of local languages in science communication. This research, a collaborative effort among four Indian institutions, was driven by the dedication of students Mohammad Abdus Shakur and Paul Mangaly. The study underscores the importance of regional biodiversity and interdisciplinary teamwork in advancing ecological knowledge.
