As a part of AERO's research initiatives in Goa, in collaboration with Goa Forest Department, AERO executed a first of its kind butterfly monitoring survey in Goa on a pilot scale at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary on 24th and 25th September 2022. Jalmesh Karapurkar, coordinator of the survey along with Kuldip Topo, Harshada Gauns and Dr. Pronoy Baidya worked hard to put this citizen led initiative on ground with ample suppport from Deputy Conservator of Forests WL and ET- North Shri. Jabestin Arulraj (IFS), Assistant Conservator of Forest and Zoo Manager Bondla Zoological Park Shri. Paresh Porob and Range Forest Officer Shri. Sangam Gawas. We had thirty volunteers across different educational institutions of Goa who participated in this project. From the survey effort, a total of 82 species of butterflies representing six families have been reported from Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary. A detailed report of this project will be released on the ocassion of Wildlife Week 2022 at the hands of Hon. MLA of Sanvordem and Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Dr. Ganesh Gaonkar.
