The launch of Arannya Environment Research Organisation’s first official book, a comprehensive wildlife (bird) conservation volume with databased interpretations, marks a significant milestone for Goa’s conservation literature. Authored after 18 days of relentless teamwork, the book stands as a tribute to Goa’s rich avifauna and the tireless efforts of birdwatchers and conservationists. The project received invaluable support from the Hon’ble Forest Minister Shri. Vishwajit P. Rane and senior officials of the Goa Forest Department, whose guidance was instrumental in retracing the pioneering work of Dr. Asad Rahmani to produce “Threatened Birds of Goa.” The book is dedicated to Dr. Rahmani, Dr. Gadgil, Heinz Lainer, Dr. Chinderkar, and the passionate birdwatching community of Goa.

Co-authors Jalmesh Karapurkar and Sujeetkumar Dongre, alongside a dedicated coordination team, contributed countless hours to ensure the book’s accuracy and impact. Special thanks go to Dr. Malapati Janarthanam for rapid manuscript proofing, and to Dr. Taej Mundkur and Paresh Porob for their insights on nesting and species movement. The book also draws on national trends from BirdCount India’s State of India’s Birds initiative, and features stunning photography from a host of talented contributors. Supported by organizations like Wipro Foundation and Wetlands International, this publication is a testament to collaborative conservation and a valuable resource for future generations.
